*****

The Befriending Tree Project is a compassionate outreach initiative by The Samaritans of Rhode Island, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to emotional support and suicide prevention since 1977.

At its core is The Befriending Tree and the Bunny, a beautifully illustrated children’s book for ages 2–8. It tells the story of a lonely bunny who finds comfort, courage, and connection through the gentle wisdom of the Befriending Tree. With themes of empathy, kindness, and the healing power of being heard, the book fosters emotional well-being, literacy, and meaningful conversations between children and caregivers.

Thanks to early donor support from a charitable foundation, The Samaritans of RI is distributing free copies to programs serving children and families across Rhode Island. Early partners include:

🏥 Hasbro Children’s Hospital

⚖️ RI Family Court

🏕️ Camp Ruggles

Every donated book reminds a child and family: You matter. We care.
